THE EARLY DAYS

Joined the Air Force in January, 1963

Married Karen in July 1963

Daughter Terri born October, 1964

Spent 3 years in Air Force tech shools
learning how to fix F-4C radar and
weapons control systems.

LBJ decided a bunch of us should forget about the 3 years of electronics training, and spend a year in Vietnam loading the M61A1 Vulcan 20mm Cannon

And loading bombs.

And in our spare time - fixing the
M61A1 Vulcan 20mm Cannon.

They provided a (sometimes) dry place to sleep.

(I never had any interest in camping out after a year of this)

Lots of scenic walkways.

That white canvas in the lower right is a urinal.

For the serious business, there were 6 hole
outhouses with a big can under each hole
(some cans burning at the far right).

The most unlucky airman of the day had to pull the cans out from the bottom of the outhouse, fill with jet fuel, then throw in a match. What an unforgetable smell

Anyone for a nice COLD shower
with lots of fresh air

Laundry day.

Doing the dishes.
Kerosene fired heaters in big metal cans
soapy water in the first, then 3 to rinse
